Just out of curiosity; does anyone have the game? I was planning on playing it with Roy, but then I found out NA can't play with EU. So we can't play together. The servers are separated. *Sad face* But! If anyone here has the game then we can play sometime. (If anyone is up for it.) =)

Do be sure to clear the main game first. So what's your preferred weapon?

Yeah, I read that I should finish the offline quests first. I like the shield and sword (or dagger? w/e) so far. Still not used to the slow greatsword.

Sword and Shield are a solid choice. With them, element/status are going to be the main offensive appeal.
As for Greatswords... I like them, but without a set for them(Short Charge/Attack Up/Critical Up), you'll have to be damn good to make them effective.

Ah, I see. How about Long swords? (Sorry if I'm asking so much. xD)

Nonsense! I rather enjoy explaining these things.
Longswords are my preferred weapon. They're pretty mobile and have plenty of range. Power... Requires a bit of an explanation.
Long Swords charge up a Spirit Gauge everytime they so much as nick an enemy. By using energy from this gauge, you can use a Spirit Combo which will drain some of the gauge. However, if you land all three hits, your Spirit Gauge will turn white, granting a multiplier to all of your attacks. You can do this again while in said state to reach yellow, which offers an even greater multiplier, and then red, which is the strongest. The white and yellow gauge boost are permanent or close to, whereas the red gauge will burn up in minutes unless you perform the spirit combo successfully. If you do, that resets the counter.
For reference, Yellow is a 10% boost in raw damage. Red is a 25% boost in raw damage. In Monster Hunter, this is actually quite a bit more than you'd expect.
The Long Sword offers one of the highest damage outputs in the game if you can consistently land your attacks and keep the Spirit Gauge at red. Combine that with it's range and you're pretty much waving a kill stick around. Though in online play you can trip your allies with this, so keep that in mind.
Alas, the first decent longsword comes around fairly late in the story. The earliest longsword, and the only one for a while, is the paralysis longsword. Do not pick up the paralysis Longsword. It does pitiful damage even if you're spamming the spirit combo while in red gauge.
I think the spirit combo stops requiring spirit gauge to bust out once you've hit white... But it's been a while, so you can just test that out.
That was... Quite the ramble. TL;DR: High damge. Good speed. They arrive late in the game. Don't trip other players.

Do make note that certain Stones/Bugs/Whatever else will hold different drop rates for certain items. Different colored rocks and the like are also a sign of rarer items. Generally, that is.
