I believe this to be one of the greatest, most (emotionally) powerful anime of all time, with one of my all-time favorite anime girls as the female lead. I call her Horo, but I guess the English version is Holo. Ah well, I doubt I'll change.
Anyway, I bring this up because I was researching the best girls of anime/manga in order to improve the manga I'm working on... and I've decided that as part of this, I'm going to rewatch Spice and Wolf from beginning to end. It's quite unlike most of the anime I watch in that it is, for the most part, remarkably mundane. There's a touch of the supernatural at certain parts, and Horo's not human, but otherwise it's very low in the extraordinary - and somehow better for it!
Ooh, here's something that better explains what I mean by mundane: "The series has been called a 'unique fantasy' by Mainichi Shimbun due to the plot focusing on economics, trade, and peddling rather than the typical staples of fantasy such as swords and magic."
Whoops, I started watching mid-post! Guess I'll end it here. (The post, I mean.)

Ohh! I do need something new to watch. I've seen all my usual favorites at least 100+ times already! This sounds cool

Ahhh, I really love Spice and Wolf... I just finished rewatching the last episode of the second season. To my knowledge, that's the most recent season to exist, though fans still really want another season. They did make some visual novels for the DS, but so far no more anime. Horo really is an amazing character, though... and no other anime made matters of money seem so dramatic to me, to the point that it leaves my heart pounding... I really can't explain it; all I know is that it's really well-done. If you haven't seen it yet, I definitely recommend it.
